Solid-state microwave transistors offer a significantly longer lifespan than magnetron tubes, providing hundreds of thousands of hours of use, while expensive magnetron tubes typically provide only 4000-6000 hours. Solid-state transistors also provide consistent power output throughout their life, while magnetron tubes decline in power and stability as they age.
The longer lifespan and limited maintenance requirements of solid-state transistors makes Crescend's solid-state microwave generator technology ideal for remote locations. Power modules and power supply units can be replaced easily and safely, eliminating lengthy or difficult – and therefore costly – trips by specialized technicians. Diagnostic monitoring and testing can be performed remotely over the internet.
The modular, plug-in construction of Crescend Technologies’ microwave generators allows RF power modules or power supply units to be replaced easily with simple hand tools in about thirty minutes. Conventional magnetron tubes require skilled service technicians for replacement, which results in higher costs and greatly increased downtimes. Solid state generators do not internally use dangerous high voltages (20,000 volts) present in magnetron generators.
